**THESE DOGS ARE VERY SWEET, THEY JUST NEED SOME TLC **
CAN YOU HELP? CAN YOU FOSTER? CAN YOU DONATE?
CAN YOU VOLUNTEER?
THERE ARE MANY THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP US
HELP THESE ANIMALS GET A SECOND CHANCE.
We have many dogs on our website that you will see have come from puppymills. The recent dogs that came from the PuppyMill in Millington have "PuppyMill Rescue" in the name field. You can click on many others on our website and read that they also came from various puppymills in the past. We have more coming in, and some that are not photographed and posted yet. Just click on our available dog listing above to see the dogs currently posted. The pictures will be updated with better pictures as we get them to foster homes. Many of the pictures you will see of them are the day they were rescued, so they are scared and in kennels or at vet offices. We have dachshunds, poodles, poms, chihuahuas, and cockers. There are so many still in limbo at vets, shelters, etc that we need to find foster homes for -- there are so many jack russells and rat terriers and jack/rat mixes and they are just so sweet.
As many of you saw on the news, the owner of the PuppyMill cleared out (hid offsite) over 100 dogs the day before officials came so that they couldn't seize her dogs. Now she cannot bring the dogs back onto the property, so they are starting to surface. We received 18 dogs the night before the raid and 23 after the raid.
We need supplies and donations for the medical needs for these dogs.
You can mail a check to us at:
MARL, PO Box 61, Red Banks, MS 38661
or
use paypal.com, send to midsouthpets@aol.com
We've been very busy and still have many that haven't been posted on the website yet. Everyone involved is just so busy trying to get them moved into temporary care, for vetting, and then ready for foster care and perm homes. We really need foster homes, so if you can foster a dog we already have or one of the new puppymill dogs, please let me know. We have several jack russells, rat terriers and mixes of both, as well as cockers, pekes, and chihuahuas that are not posted on our website yet.
Every shelter and rescue group is always full, and always spread thin. Now, with all these puppymill dogs coming, in they are even working harder. If you are worried about fostering a puppymill dog, please consider adopting or fostering one of the dogs they already have up for adoption. This helps with space and allows us to rescue, assess, and ready the puppymill dogs for adoption. If you can volunteer, donate, adopt, or foster, please make sure you send your contact information via email so that the agencies that need your help can contact you. We will forward your information to all agencies, both local and out of state, that are involved and have the animals.
**A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FOLLOWING VETS FOR HELPING US WITH THESE ANIMALS:
Dr. Rebecca Coleman
Dr. Tammy Wright & Dr. Amy Cooper, Shelby Center Hospital for Animals
Dr. Ruth Wilburn, Olive Branch Animal Clinic
Dr. Julia Barrett, Open Arms Animal Hospital
TO HELP SAVE A HEART
So many of the animals we rescue are sick and malnourished and have never had anything soft, dry, warm, or a kind touch.
There is good news though -- You can help and it is very easy! There are so many easy ways you can help us.
One easy way you can help us is to join us in our Toy & Blanket Drive Program. As you can imagine, we have a huge Wish List, which we have included at the bottom of this page, but what we really need right now, are toys, used or new, and blankets, towels, and dog beds, used or new, and treats for the many animals that will be in our care and at the shelters we help. You can drop them off at any Hollywood Feed location. Please make sure you tell them that your items are for MidSouth Animal Rescue League.
Also, if you don't have time to round up items needed you can always donate through Paypal. It fast, convenient and secure. You can even find a dog or cat on our available list and designate your donation for that particular dog or cat. Click on the DONATE link below
It may not seem like much to you, but an old beat up dog bed, or a stained towel that is worn and frayed, or a stuffed animal that is past it's prime, is a big deal to us and believe me the animals don't complain about them not being new. Being able to provide these lonely homeless animals with toys and blankets actually help us get through the day. You can't imagine how good it feels to cheer up a lonely, scared dog with a ball, squeaky toy, or stuffed animal. Imagine what it is like to give a pregnant dog a nice warm blanket to curl up on to help her get comfortable and settled in. Imagine that you are a skinny, scared dog, that just came in from being on a chain your whole life, you've never had a kind word, or anything soft, and a nice person gives you a cool bath, good food, and a soft blanket, to sleep on. Some of these dogs have lived life on the end of a chain or come from an abusive home and have never had anything soft or warm, a kind word, or someone to love them. It is truly wonderful to see them play with a toy or curled up on a soft, warm blanket. These items can absolutely bring a dog out of it's shell or relieve them of the stress of being in a shelter.
We are also doing a Dog House and Kennel/Crate drive. These can also be new or used. We desperately need to replinish our supply of dog houses and crates. We were already low after donating what we had to Jackson, TN when the tornadoes hit there, and to Katrina. If you have any or know any neighbors who have any, please give us a call and we will pick them up, or you can drop them off at any Hollywood Feed location.
Throughout the year we have had donations of blankets, toys, food, towels, and other items dropped off at Hollywood Feed Store. These items were of great use to us in caring for the animals. We have always shared our good fortune with other groups that needed these items. Throughout the year we have shared our donations with the West Memphis Animal Shelter, the Oxford Animal Shelter, the Collierville Animal Shelter, FOCAS, Purrever Ranch, Project Hope, Adoptions By Lorie, the Marshall County Humane Society, Mostly Beagle Rescue, and Save 1 Pet. We also donated and gathered items for Northeast Arkansans for Animals for aid to the victims of the tornadoes in their area.
Kindness and generosity do not begin to describe what Marcie Hillyer and her sweet little adopted peke, Ruby did. They filled 6 boxes and many bags full of every kind of dog and cat item imagineable. Their donations came just in time. Marcie and Ruby also just adopted Harry, a very special little peke who had a very hard life.
Felicitas Sloves and her family donated lots of great items, great blankets and beautiful, comfortable rugs. The rugs were very special as they were made by her. The Sloves family adopted a great little dog and we appreciate their continued support.
Sonia Richardson's mom took the wires out of electric blankets, cut them, and made nice soft, cozy, warm blankets for the animals.
Minetry Apperson and Pam Bell continually donate supplies and they always seem to come right when we need them.
Lisa Cayce, not only adopted a precious poodle from us in December, she also got her company to do a donation drive. When we delivered her new dog to her, she had a van load full of supplies, that she and the employees at ETFC Architects gathered.
Tammy Turney donated lots of goodies and rescued and rehomed an adorable terrier along the way.
A sweet little dog named Sophie Bondani donated some great doggy items.
Diane with Science Diet helped us immensley with food.
Shawn at Hollywood Feed helps us immensley with food and items all year.
Kimberly Sommers left some great goodies for the animals.
Daniel and Nikki Jerden joined in and donated lots of items to help the animals.
VOLUNTEER HOUR DONATIONS: Other companies have donation programs that support employee volunteer involvement by providing financial support to nonprofit organizations once an employee volunteers. The company makes a donation after the employee has volunteered a designated number of hours.
Please ask your company if they have a volunteer hour or matching gift program today.
Norene Logan did! She volunteered and applied for the Time-N-Talent Program at her company, Medtronic.

Potential adopters are asked to complete an application, which includes personal information, personal and veterinarian references, and questions which will help us to determine which pet will fit best into your home and family, and must sign an Adoption Agreement. We are looking for homes that understand that adopting a pet is a 10 to 15 year commitment to love and care for this homeless animal?s needs.
Our adoption fee is $100.00 for dogs, unless noted otherwise. Adoption fee may vary depending on what shelter the posted pet is from. Potential adopters must complete an application and interview with an adoption counselor, and a home visit. Fenced in yards are required, unless otherwise noted by other rescue organizations, who have posted their dogs on this site, or fence requirement is waived by referral.
All animals have had a physical examination, initial vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing for dogs, feline leukemia testing for cats, and more.
Adopting a new family member should involve a well-thought out and deliberate process. This is not an impulse purchase. Please understand that we do not want these animals to be homeless again. We try to complete the process as quickly as possible and appreciate all the applications and will consider each and every one we receive.
*UPDATE* It is almost impossible to return everyone's calls and emails. We do try, but the volume we receive during this time is overwhelming. Voicemail fills up several times a day, and the emails are endless. Unfortunately, sometimes, applicants get caught in the confusion of these calls and we miss them. We are very sorry if we miss responding to you, and assure you it is an oversight and not intentional. For contacting us, email is always better. Some days we get 100 emails just asking us if a dog is available. This is very frustrating for us because we maintain a current website everyday. These emails and calls asking if a dog is available, how much the fee is, etc, consumes alot of our time that could be used in responding to local applicants. Most questions you have can be answered by reading our site. We do sincerely apologize for not being able to get to everyone and are sorry for any inconvenience we cause you.
We know how excited and anxious you are to adopt your new pet. We know it is hard to understand why the adoption process is so lengthy and may seem cumbersome to you. We know it is hard to understand why it can take awhile to get your call returned or your application processed immediately and we apologize for the inconvenience. We ask that you be patient and we ask that you understand that we are volunteers that receive more requests, phone calls, applications, and emails than we can possibly return in a day. We ask that you remember that we are absolutely overwhelmed with the homeless animals that need our care and attention. We ask that you remember that we are gone most of the day rescuing animals from shelters, taking them to the vet, doing homevisits, processing applications, checking references, and doing adoption days and events, and the list goes on and on. One sick rescue can throw us off schedule. Please remember that we have families and pets that sometimes get sick and need our time as well.
Almost always, we receive many applicants for the same dog. In this case, we try to make the best possible match based on the information we have gotten during the application process. Sometimes the dog you're applying for might already have an adoption pending or may actually "fit" better in a different applicant's home. In this case, we will try to notify you as soon as possible and you may choose to consider another available dog or continue with the process for "pre-approval" on a future dog that becomes available. Approved applicants are contacted first.
NOTE: Some of the animals on this website are in foster homes with the good samaritans that rescued them. We forward the application to them so that they may contact you. There are also some special dogs on here that other shelters, like the Oxford Animal Shelter, have asked us to put on our website to make sure that they get a fair chance at being seen. We prefer to adopt in the Mid-South AREA, usually no more than 1-2 hours away in driving distance. We rarely adopt long distance, but will consider each and every application.
Thank you all for understanding our application process!
We encourage you to send in an application, it will speed up the process.

If you have items you'd like to donate to help us with our sale, please contact us at 901/503-0162, email us at: midsouthpets@aol.com Thank you!

In Loving Memory of Boomer
A very kind and thoughtful donation was made by friends and co-workers at Couch and Associates, in memory of Lee and Nancy Steadman's beloved pet, Boomer. "We know how much you loved Boomer and how much he meant to you."
Lee and Nancy Steadman donated a trailer full of items to the Yard Sale for the Animals in memory of their precious dog, Boomer. This donation helped raise money to feed and care for the many homeless animals in our care.
In Loving Memory of Bama
A very kind and thoughtful donation was made by Larry Enis in honor of their beloved pet, Bama.
A very kind and thoughtful donation was made by Iris and D.B. Johnson, in memory of Bama, beloved pet of Elaine and Larry Enis.
Larry and Elaine Enis donated items to the Yard Sale for the Animals, in memory of their beloved pet, Bama, which helped us raise money to care for the many homeless animals in our care.
A kind donation was made by Susan Popham: "In honor of Joseph York, and his adorable rescue dogs - Sniffles, Squiggles, Truffles, Pepper, Samson, and Cuddles - who all bring a good deal of joy to his life and those around him".

Thanks so much -- to all of you who volunteer your time and money and support to us, we can't do what we do without you.
There are so many people to thank that we can't list them all. Please know that you are appreciated more than you will ever know. You are helping to save lives and provide comfort to homeless animals.
Many thanks to Beth Strong, Carol Word, Pam Bell, and Darcy Best who transport animals to other groups from time to time. These dogs would not get a chance at a new life if they didn't offer to drive them to their new state.
Dr. Kathy Mitchener, DVM, with the Angel Care Cancer Clinic for Animals is our hero! She has been great! She has done acupuncture on several of our rescues that had debilitating health problems. From dry eye to ruptured disk to paralysis, to behavior problems, she helped by doing acupuncture on these animals. Her compassion and dedication to help make these homeless animals comfortable is truly appreciated. On a personal level, my precious rottweiler Sabal, would have been put to sleep in May, due to degenerative myelopathy. Dr. Kathy has given me all these months with Sabal, months I wouldn't have had, if it weren't for her use of acupuncutre on Sabal's disease. You can read more about her and her acupuncture at www.angelcarecca.org
From great medical care to great customer service, Shelby Center Hospital for Animals is always there for our homeless animals. The staff there really do care about the plight of homeless animals. They treat our animals as if they were their own pets. They treat us with respect and work very hard to help us find homes for these animals. They are wonderful and we highly recommend them. Their clients are wonderful too -- many of their clients have adopted pets from us.
Big thanks to Minetry Apperson and Pam Bell who have been amazing to us. We love them! They constantly donate blankets, treats, kennels, and miscellaneous supplies to help us. They always think of us and help when there is a need. Minetry and her friends helped raise the money to treat the schnauzer Shelby Melin for heartworms. They are a constant source of support and there aren't words to express how thankful we are to them. They have always helped any animal or group in need. Minetry always drops a check in the mail throughout the year, and it always comes just when we need a little extra help. She has donated dog tags and so many items, we can't say thanks enough.
Dr. Amy Cooper at Shelby Center Hospital for Animals has been so great with two of our heartworm positive dogs. She saw them through a very difficult treatment and held the new owner's hands. She is also Ranger's vet. Ranger was the emmaciated, crippled, rottweiler that had no hair and was almost dead upon rescue. Most vets would have never given him a chance. He loves her and so do we. She is so kind and treats our rescues like they were someone's beloved pets.
I don't know what we would do without Pearl with Pearly Pets Grooming. They donate their time to groom the animals that come in, who are matted to the skin, and need to be cleaned up. This would be a huge expense if it weren't for their support. They help us find great homes for our homeless animals with their fabulous clients. Thanks Pearl and staff!
We would like to say a special thanks to Hollywood Feed, who have helped us with adoption days and special events. They donate food and items as well as letting us use their store as a donation site. We couldn't do what we do without their support and involvement.
Big Thanks to Diane Sammons with Science Diet who has supported our mission to help homeless animals by donating food. Her support came at a much needed time, winter holiday season, which is always a very hard time for us both with finances and intake numbers.
Dr. Ruth and Dr. Ellis at Olive Branch Animal Clinic have been a huge help. They are so kind and so caring with our homeless animals. The staff really cares and have helped with some very hard to place animals. They have held our hand through some very difficult decisions and I just can't say enough nice things about them. The staff is very rescue friendly, and volunteer and foster and rescue right along with the rest of us. Without their support we could not help treat the animals we rescue.
Rita Woods with Purrever Ranch has always been kind in passing along blankets and supplies to us. She is so thoughtful and generous and we appreciate her support. We know she is in the same boat we are in, and struggles for everything, but still shares and helps others.
Sue Hall and FOCAS rock! They have always extended an offer of help and helped us in anyway they can. From supplies to helping with animals, Sue is always there.
Thanks Dr. Ralph Pope and Dr. Shaw at Pope Animal Clinic! Dr. Pope recently helped us with 3 dogs that had nowhere to go, rescued on a weekend, when no one was open. If it weren't for his generousity these dogs would have never made it out of the shelter alive.
Dr. McCutcheon and Dr. Cochran at Park Avenue Animal Hospital have always been supportive of the plight of homeless animals in the MidSouth. We've had some special little dogs that they have helped with. The staff has always been so sweet and helpful. On a personal note, Dr. McCutcheon has been my vet for years, and my rottweiler Sabal lived to be 13 because of her care and support. This is one of the kindest offices and I can't say enough about the staff there. They really do care about animals and their clients.
We would also like to say huge thank you to all the rescue groups that help us by rescuing the animals out of our shelter and the other Mid-South Shelters. TOGETHER WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

I hope you are half as blessed as I was to have a friend as kind, funny, patient, and unselfish, as Gail Lambert. She was the definition of grace, and thoughtfulness. She was the most positive person I have ever met. Gail listened with her heart and lived with compassion. She always had words of wisdom, and especially home cooked meals for comfort for those of us in need. If a friend or even a stranger were in need, she would be the first in line to step up and offer help. I was always touched by her sincerity and compassion for those she barely knew. She never forgot anyone, or their dog. She remembered everyone.
Gail never met a stranger. She made friends with everyone she met. Whether it was in line at a grocery store, an adoption day, or a waiting room in the vet’s office, she was always making friends. Gail loved people, loved loving them, and loved life.
Gail touched so many people, everyone she met, she greeted with kindness and generosity. I don’t think there can be another person to match her, but we should all try. The best way to celebrate Gail's life is to live by her example of love, kindness, patience, generosity, and her dedication to helping others.
She was truly a saint. She cared for her husband and family and friends with complete love and devotion. She was so devoted to her husband Alan and loved him dearly.
My life will never be the same without her in it. I loved and valued her very much. Not a day will go by that I don’t think of Gail. I’m a better person for having Gail’s influence in my life.
Gail Lambert made the world a better place.
We also want to say thanks to Gail's husband, Alan Lambert, who continues to volunteer, foster, and donate blankets. We love Alan very much.
